I Was Wrong About August. Here Is the Full Scoreboard, and My September Call.

By Josh Molnar · September 2026 · 8 min read

I told you August would be red. I was wrong. August is official at +25.1%, the first green August of any Bitcoin bear market in history, and I post the miss the same way I posted every win this year. Then call number 9 goes live, before September trades.

The scoreboard, official

Every month of 2026 was called in advance on this page, and here is the complete grade on official monthly closes. Lower in January, -10.1%, hit. Lower in February, -14.8%, hit. A trap rally in March, +1.8%, and April, +11.9%, both hit. Lower in May, -3.6%, and June, -20.4%, both hit. The bounce in July, +7.3%, hit. Red in August, +25.1%, missed. Eight calls, seven hits, 87.5% for the year, with Bitcoin down 10.2% year to date.

The miss deserves its anatomy. August was a $4 billion short squeeze, the first green August against a previous bear-market record of 4 for 4 red with a median of -14%. I bet the base rate, and the base rate lost. When you bet base rates, you eat the exceptions, publicly. That is the deal this page made with you in January and it does not change after a bad month.

The stat that surprised even me

Now September, and the first of two stats behind the call. Every double-digit green August in Bitcoin's history was followed by a red September. Three for three. 2013's +30% August was followed by a red September. 2017's +66% August, the biggest ever, red September. 2021's +14% August, red September. Even the most powerful bull markets in the asset's history could not carry a hot August into September, and ours just closed +25%.

September inside bear markets

The second stat. Inside bear markets, September has never closed green. 2014 fell 18.4%. 2018 fell 6.0%. 2022 fell 3.2%. Three bear-market Septembers, three red closes, no exceptions. And before anyone raises 2015, its +2.8% September came eight months after that bear's January bottom, in a market that was already basing, so it does not qualify as a bear-market September.

The chart has already flipped

On the lower timeframes, the rally's structure turned before the month did. A double top printed at $81,255 and $81,455, right under the May high at $82,833. The swing low at $77,627 broke, giving a lower low at $76,877. And every bounce since has been capped under $79,400, a lower high forming now. The sequence of higher highs and higher lows that defined the rally is gone, while the larger bear trend never broke at all, with zero closes above $82,833 since the level was set in May.

The timing context stacks on top. This is day 11 of the Turbulence Law's 90-day window, the study showing all 14 prior overheated RSI periods took a drawdown of at least 21% within 90 days. And both cycle clocks, the calendar and the block clock, open the historical bottom window in late September. This is the month the framework says the ending can begin.

Call number 9, on the record

Red September. The morning after the calendar embarrassed me, I am betting against it again, because the data says the same thing it said all year. The call is posted before the month trades and graded on the monthly close, in the first days of October, whichever way it lands.

And here is what proves me wrong. A green monthly close makes me 7 for 9, and I will post that scoreboard as loudly as this one. Above $82,833 on a daily and weekly close, the bear's last lower high is broken and we re-evaluate everything before October even arrives. Below $57,735, the July low, the bear's final leg is running. The call is falsifiable, dated and public. That is the whole point of this page.

Common questions

What is the Bitcoin September 2026 prediction?

The call on record is a red September, posted September 1 before the month traded. It rests on three legs: every double-digit green August in Bitcoin's history was followed by a red September (3 for 3, in 2013, 2017 and 2021), September has never closed green inside a bear market (2014 -18.4%, 2018 -6.0%, 2022 -3.2%), and the lower-timeframe structure has already flipped to lower highs and lower lows. It is graded on the monthly close in early October, publicly, either way.

Has Bitcoin ever had a green September in a bear market?

No. The three Septembers that occurred inside bear markets all closed red: 2014 at -18.4%, 2018 at -6.0% and 2022 at -3.2%. September 2015 closed green at +2.8%, but it came eight months after that bear's January 2015 bottom, in a basing market, so it was not a bear-market September.

What happened after Bitcoin's biggest green Augusts?

Every August that gained more than 10% was followed by a red September, three times out of three: 2013's +30% August, 2017's +66% August and 2021's +14% August all rolled into red Septembers, despite occurring in strong bull markets. August 2026's +25.1% is the first entry on that list from inside a bear market.

How accurate have the 2026 monthly Bitcoin calls been?

Seven of eight, all posted before each month traded and graded on official closes. Lower in January (-10.1%) and February (-14.8%), the trap rally in March (+1.8%) and April (+11.9%), lower in May (-3.6%) and June (-20.4%), the July bounce (+7.3%), and the one miss, August, called red and closing +25.1%.
