Each bar is a top-50 coin's 30-day return measured against Bitcoin. Green beat Bitcoin, red lagged it, and the index is simply the share that are green.

This starts as a 30-day read because our free data source does not expose a 90-day change. We snapshot every top coin's price against Bitcoin each day, so once ninety days of history have accumulated this automatically becomes the classic 90-day Altcoin Season Index. Stablecoins and wrapped tokens are excluded because they do not represent an altcoin bet. Not investment advice.

The Altcoin Season Index answers one blunt question: is the money favouring Bitcoin, or is it chasing altcoins? It takes the fifty largest coins, sets stablecoins and wrapped tokens aside, and simply counts how many of them have beaten Bitcoin over the last month. That count, as a percentage, is the index.

The reading runs from Bitcoin season to altcoin season. When almost everything is lagging Bitcoin the index sits low and it is Bitcoin's market. When most alts are outrunning it the index climbs, and a reading above seventy-five is the classic definition of altcoin season, the frothy phase where speculative money floods down the risk curve. Below twenty-five, Bitcoin is firmly in charge.

Read it as a breadth gauge, not a signal. Altcoin seasons have tended to arrive late in a cycle, after Bitcoin has already run and attention spills into smaller coins, and they can end abruptly. We show every coin's month against Bitcoin so you can see whether the move is broad or just a handful of names doing the work.
